Memorial for Fallen Graduates
The Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Academy has been in operation since 1999. Since its inception, approximately 2000 men and women have graduated to provide service to the citizens of Arkansas as officers for City, County, and State agencies. Three of our graduates have lost their lives in the line of duty from a vehicle crash, aviation crash and gunshot. We hope to never again lose one of our graduates who are serving our communities; however, such risks are a reality of this service. The LETA staff and Class 2017B have sought to honor the sacrifice of these 3 graduates and their families as well as any future graduates who whose lives are given in the line of duty.
A memorial to honor their sacrifice in service to our communities is proposed to be constructed on the north side of the Law Enforcement Training Academy building. The elegant memorial will include a brick surface with a permanent memorial and three flags in a garden setting that is worthy of its cause. Designs are being considered and the funding has already begun with the efforts of Class 2017B. The memorial site will be a focal point for officers during morning and afternoon formations and flag service reminding them of the importance of their training and to honor those who have served before them.
The BRTC Law Enforcement Training Academy is offering engraved brick sponsorships to provide a large portion of the funding for this worthy project. The Academy is hopeful that prior graduates will embrace this project and provide their support following the leadership of the current graduating class.
