First Annual Bucks and Ducks Held at BRTC Pocahontas

POCAHONTAS, AR, October 30, 2019 — BRTC in Pocahontas held the first annual Bucks and Ducks outdoor student event on Wednesday, October 23 in the parking lot of RCDC.  The event was coordinated by the Enrollment Management team at Pocahontas.

Students were invited to participate in a duck calling contest, a pumpkin painting, a pumpkin carving contest, and a free catfish lunch prepared by the BRTC Cafeteria.  The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission brought its mobile aquarium as well as a variety of pelts with information.  Cavenaugh Marine in Pocahontas brought out a johnboat for view and students enjoyed racing on the National Guard\’s pedal cars.

Duck call contest judges were Rick Hampton from Brinkley, BRTC student Garret Buck from Rector, Dillon Cox from Pocahontas, and Tom Smallings with Ducks Unlimited in Paragould.

In addition to the festivities, Williams Baptist University and Arkansas State University recruiters were in attendance to help students who want to prepare for transfer to a 4-year university after their time at BRTC.

The duck calling contest winners were, in 1st place, Jackson Forrester from Walnut Ridge, 2nd place, Ridge Utley from Imboden; and 3rd place, Gunnar Conway from Delaplaine.
