BRTC Approved to offer Associate of General Studies Online

POCAHONTAS, AR  May 14  — The Arkansas Division of Higher Education (ADHE) approved for Black River Technical College to offer the Associate of General Studies completely online.

The AGS is currently available for all on-campus students.  Allowing the program to be obtained online will help many students speed up their transfer to a 4-year university.

The Associate of General Studies is a very flexible degree.  While it requires 60 credit hours like other associate degrees, the AGS allows students to choose any credit course offered by BRTC beyond the required basic 15 hours.  A similar degree, the Associates of Arts, is more restrictive and requires more specific classes.

According to Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Brad Baine, “Students who choose the option of receiving the Associate of General Studies completely online will be able to pursue and complete a degree that can be tailored to their learning and curriculum needs.”

The AGS benefits students who want to transfer to a 4-year university but have a variety of technical or unrelated courses which do not apply to any one degree plan.
