BRTC Board of Trustees Holds Special Meeting

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Board of Trustees held a special meeting March 16, in which they discussed increasing out-of-state tuition, fee structure changes in the near future, and passed a resolution to recognize The Armory at BRTC .

An in-state-tuition increase of $5 per semester credit hour, which equals out to approximately $75 per student, was approved at the last Board meeting held in February and discussion about out-of-state tuition followed suit this meeting, as well as, an increase in the fees structure, including the addition of a new tech fee.

However, board member David Coker suggested the resolution be sent to the finance committee for consideration before the board votes. The board voted to table the decision until the finance committee is able to go over the issue, which will occur before the boards May quarterly meeting.

The board approved a resolution to formally approve and recognize The Armory at BRTC in Piggott, Hillcrest High School, and Westside High School as additional locations, following Arkansas Department of Higher Education and Higher Learning Commission approval, acknowledging that 50 percent or more of a certificate or degree program may be offered at these facilities.

Board members also discussed the LEARNS act that was passed recently.
