Dr. Brad Baine Speaking at MLK Day Celebration
POCAHONTAS, AR Jan. 29—On Monday, January 18, Dr. Brad Baine, BRTC’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Jason Smith, BRTC’s Vice President of Student Affairs, spoke at Randolph County’s MLK Day celebration at the courthouse.
Baine and Smith presented a timeline of the major events in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the portion of program entitled “Who was this Man?” After the presentation of the timeline, excerpts from “I Have a Dream” and “Letter from Birmingham Jail” were read. The ceremony ended with a march from the courthouse to the Eddie Mae Herron Center.
Baine and Smith offered some thoughts on the celebration; Dr. Brad Baine stated, “I consider it an honor to participate in the Martin Luther King Day Celebration that was organized by the Eddie Mae Herron Center and occurred at the Randolph County Courthouse. This community event provided residents an opportunity to pay tribute to Dr. King and recognize the impact he had on increasing equality for all. BRTC is grateful to be involved with the Eddie Mae Herron Center to celebrate events such as the MLK celebration and march.” Smith added, “I was honored to publicly read the timeline of events of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s life. Dr. King is an inspiration to all and his teachings are still as relevant today as the day they were spoken. BRTC was proud to partner with the Eddie Mae Herron Center for this wonderful event for our local community.”
The event was sponsored by the Eddie Mae Herron Center, BRTC’s Office of Corporate & Community Education, and the Pocahontas Kiwanis Club.
